Laurie E. Hall
Laurie Hall founded Synthesis Law in the San Francisco Bay Area to help companies of all sizes build their businesses and develop and protect their brands and other intellectual property. She was previously Senior Corporate Counsel at The Wine Group in California and responsible for all IP matters for the winery and its dozens of brands, including U.S. and foreign trademark and copyright clearance, registration, licensing, enforcement, litigation, IP due diligence, and rights of publicity. She also worked closely with the marketing, operations, IT, finance, hospitality, alcohol beverage compliance, and other departments to draft and negotiate contracts, review marketing materials and guide influencers, and provide practical business advice. Previously, Laurie (formerly Laurie H. van Loben Sels) was a partner at the international law firm Duane Morris LLP, where she focused on all aspects of brand development, registration, and protection, including trademarks, copyrights, design patents, customs enforcement, gray market goods, and anti-counterfeiting. During that time, Laurie also taught U.S. trademark law as an adjunct professor at the Golden Gate University School of Law in San Francisco. She started her legal career at the intellectual property firm Townsend and Townsend and Crew (now Kilpatrick Townsend Stockton) where she honed her skills in trademark clearance, prosecution, counseling, and litigation and other disputes – even the occasional judgment collection or ethics matter.
Laurie earned her Bachelor of Arts degree at University of California, Berkeley (Go Bears!), and her Juris Doctor degree at Georgetown University Law Center in Washington, DC.
